In the winter of more than two years ago, grandma died and father lost his job. I left Beijing for Xuzhou to join father in hastening home to attend grandma?s funeral. When I met father in Xuzhou, the sight of the disorderly mess in his courtyard and the though of grandma started tears trickling down my cheeks.

　I spent the first day in Nanjing strolling about with some friends at their invitation, and was ferrying across the Yangtse River to Pukou the next morning and thence taking a train for Beijing on the afternoon of the same day. Father said he was too busy to go and see me off at the railway station, but would ask a hotel waiter that he knew to accompany me there instead. He urged the waiter again and again to take good care of me, but still did not quite trust him. He hesitated for quite a while about what to do. As a matter of fact, nothing would matter at all because I was then twenty and had already trelled on Beijing-Pukou Railway a couple of times. After some wering, he finally decided that he himself would accompany me to the station. I repeatedly tried to talk him out of it, but he only said, “Never mind! It won?t do to trust guys like those hotel boys!”

　We entered the railway station after crossing the River. While I was at the booking office buying a ticket, father saw to my luggage. There was quite a bit of luggage and he had to bargain with the porter over the fee. I was then such a smart aleck that I frowned upon the way father was haggling and was on the verge of chipping in a few words when the bargain was finally clinched. Getting on the train with me, he picked me a seat close to the carriage door. I spread on the seat the brownish fur-lined overcoat he had got tailor made for me. He told me to be watchful on the way and be careful not to catch cold at night. He also asked the train attendants to take good care of me. I sniggered at father for being so impractical, for it was utterly useless to entrust me to those attendants, who cared for nothing but money. Besides, it was certainly no problem for a person of my age to look after himself. Oh, when I come to think of it, I can see how smarty I was in those days!

　I said, “Dad, you might lee now.” But he looked out of window and said, “I?m going to buy you some tangerines. You just stay here. Don?t move around.” I caught sight of several vendors waiting for customers outside the railings beyond a platform. But to reach that platform would require crossing the railway track and doing some climbing up and down. That would be a strenuous job for father, who was fat. I wanted to do all that myself, but he stopped me, so I could do nothing but let him go. I watched him hobble towards the railway track in his black skullcap, black cloth mandarin jacket and dark blue cotton-padded cloth long gown. He had little trouble climbing down the railway track, but it was a lot more difficult for him to climb up that platform after crossing the railway track. His hands held onto the upper part of the platform, his legs huddled up and his corpulent body tipped slightly towards the left, obviously making an enormous exertion. While I was watching him from behind, tearsgushed from my eyes. I quickly wiped them away lest he or others should catch me crying. The next moment when I looked out of the window again, father was already on the way back, holding bright red tangerines in both hands.

关于英语朗读的方法与技巧

　一、读正语音

　语音是指语言的声音.就是人说话的声音。语言首先是通过声音来帮助交流思想的工具。在英语学习中很好地掌握正确的发音，不但有利于从声音方面来表达思想，而且还可以提高朗读水平。

　读正语音就必须认真读好48个音素，记住48个音标符号，能根据音标正确拼读出单词的读音，这是学习英语很重要的基本功。也是朗读好课文的基础。重要的是从一开始就要努力说得一口纯正的语音。只有多听、多模仿、多朗读。即Practice makes perfect(多练出真功)。

　二、读准语调

　发音纯正，读准了单词，语调不对，不但听起来不舒服，英美人甚至难以听懂言者的意思;相反如果语调正确，个别单词读不准，听起来像英语调子，英美人还能从语调上猜出言者的意思，所以语调比发音更重要。语调是说话的腔调，就是一句话里语音高低轻蘑的配置。

　英语语调主要表现在句子重音和声调上。语调不同，表达意思也各异。例如：She is a baby doctor.如仅重渎babv这个词，意思是?她是儿科医生?;如果同时还重读doctor则表示?她是没有经验的医生?(quite young and unexperienced doc?tor)。

　又如thank you如果读成降调则表示感谢;如果读成升调，则毫无感谢之意，有时甚至还表示反感。读准语调就是要读准句子的重音和声调：当然也应能抑扬顿挫地连读、弱读、失去爆破、同化等。在朗读时，认真模仿英语录音带提供的标准语调，坚持练习，使正确的语音语调牢同地同定下来，保证今后一开口就能渎得对、读得准。

　三、把握节奏

　英语的节奏是指英语诸音节在语流中强读和弱读的规律性。它以?步?(foot)为基础，每句话都有若干?步?，就好像音乐中的?小节?(bar)一样，每段乐曲都含有若干小节。乐曲中每个小节都以强拍开始;英语中，一般说来每一步的第一个音节都是重读音节。有的步单独一个重读音节组成，有的步由一个重读音节加上若干非蓖读音节组成。

　在朗读中，有的步有时也能以非重读音节开始，就如乐曲中的小节以休止符开始一样.这个步的非重读音节前也有个休止符，称为silent beat。现在，我们用?/?表示步与步之间的界线，用?一?表示休止。举例如下：

　1.one/two/three/four/five

　2.?the/first of/April/nine/seventy/one/

　每个人说话的速度各不一样，同一个人在不同的环境条件、不同的情绪时说话的快慢也各不～样。但是，在用某一种语速的过程中，每步所需要的时间大致上是相同的，就像音乐中每个小节所占的时间相同一样，这就形成了节奏。为了保持节奏，包含音节多的步的语速就必须比包含音节少的语速快一些。因此，学生朗读课文。就必须懂得英语的节奏，自觉地实践。学会有节奏的朗读。

　四、掌握语速

　语速是指朗读时的快慢程度。慢读与快读都有一定标准。慢渎，重在读准词、词组、短语、意群和句子基础上，进而注意语言速度。即慢中求准，慢中求快。因此，慢读的速度应根据自己的实际情况而定;快读，即以每分钟148个音节左右的正常语速朗读，或根据文章内容上的需要(如为了刻画人物，表达感情)朗读。

　语速影响听的效果，所以语速不可太快或太慢，否则都达不到?让人听清楚?的目的。读速过快会造成句子重音、意群和节奏方面的错误，还会造成发音不到位、加音、吞音、误读以及移行时的突然中断，影响意思的表达。所以要力求读准，发音清楚、正确。

　当然，朗读并不是越慢越好。随着熟练程度的提高和朗读技巧的掌握，读速可以逐步加快。朗读应力求流利(nuentlv o流利即快而清楚，通畅。但一定要注意，流利并不是?速度过快?，有些学生在朗读时速度较快，但时而停顿并不通畅，仍不能让人听清楚。这里应明确的是读得流利、说得流利是我们的目标。

　五、大声朗读

　学英语一定要读起来，并且读英语一定要大声读,别害羞别不好意思,大声朗渎可以刺激自己的听觉器官，提高听力。有些同学听课文录音带，听不懂，就是因为听得少，听力差，如果我们先读课文，读十多遍再去听，就不但能听懂，而且还能听得清，能听出自己读得对与不对的地方。这时再进一步模仿录音，达到朗渎正确、流利、熟练。

　大声朗读既能练就正确的语音、语调，又能加深对课文的理解记忆、巩同所学内容、体会作者以及作品的感彩，从而提高朗读技巧，加快学习速度。

　当然，要提高朗读水平，通过朗读提高英语水平，也决非一日之功。应该坚持经常性的朗读，可利用每天的早读课朗读所学课文或所选材料，每天至少朗读半小时，只要持之以恒，就会收到意想不到的效果。

　总之，只要做到以上五点，就一定能朗读好课文，提高朗读水平，就一定能促进英语综合能力的全面提高。
